We had our Parent Teacher conference today. No surprise that Miriam is helpful and kind. But it was a surprise that she scored a 100% on the Reading portion of the standards test that they give. She was the only kid in the 3rd grade and possibly the school to have done that well. Her teacher wanted to start building a case to have her go to the gifted class for reading. We said no. While being asked makes her feel good (she has 2nd cousins in the gifted class) we feel the distraction of being pulled out would negate any benefit she might get.

It is so odd that her report card could have been one of mine (or Glenn's). I was hoping that my Dad's math gene might have just skipped a generation. I guess it skipped two.

    Happy Halloween!
    We were asked to create some Day of the Dead inspired art for an new upscale gallery that just opened near our house. So the last 2 months have been busy with Miriam's birthday party and creating "Death". OK, Death, Pumpkin=heads and witches. We have some photos out at our site;

    http://www.sedillohillstudio.com/

Birthday party had more than a dozen kids (of which, only 3 were not related) and we did tie-dye tee shirts with them all. Miriam declared it the best birthday party evah.

Then we turned the house back into our clay studio to get enough figurines to ensure that we had some turn out good enough for the show. Most of them made the cut, I think we had 30 or so pieces in the show. Even Miriam got in the act and had 4 in the show. Miriam and my figures are cute. Glenn's are awesome!

Our display caught the eye of a reported for the local paper. He interviewed us and took lots of photos.

After the Gallery opening last we went to the community center for their Trick or Treat event. Then a Mom & Pop Pizza place nearby for pizza.

Tonight is a quiet evening at home. Lights are on if any kids want to walk the mile or so between houses to trick or treat. Miriam had enough last night and is happy playing Wii with her Dad while my lasagna bakes.

If you were to open your own theme restaurant, what would the theme be and how would you express it to the customers?

Irish Pub of the Harp and Thistle style...the theme would be obvious! Brendon Nolan on stage, himself behind the bar dispensing the Guinness and the the aroma of cornbeef and soda farls filling the air from my kitchen.

    Be it ever so humble....
Made it home. Left the sweltering inferno that is Fla and landed in a sunny 79 degrees Albuquerque spring day. It was 67 up at our house. I was sitting on my front porch listening to the evening dog bark and watching suspicious movement in the tall weeds. IS it a coyote or my imagination. Then I got chilled as the sun was going down and had to came in. It is now 64.

It was good to see those few people we managed to squeeze in.

Miriam had a blast at Disney - the Fireworks were worth staying for, the Buzz Lightyear ride was a delightful surprise (to us anyway, it is probably not new, but it is since the last time we went). We did get rained on but it cooled everything down a bit and sent home a few of the crowd. By the time we came out of the Pirates of Caribbean ride, it was all over.

The eating tour: Hellas in Tarpon Springs is as good as ever. The same can not be said of the original Hooters in Clearwater or Sea Sea Riders in Dunedin. A new (for us) find was Ban Thai in Safety Harbor. Thai with Sushi. Good Thai with Good Sushi. The Bookstore at the Mall formally known as Clearwater has extremely good Mocha.

In the time it took me to type this it has dropped to 62. The sunset is reflecting off of the mountains painting the sky in color. I love New Mexico.

    Fla Vacation
Vacation is almost over. Miriam has had the time of her life. Pool, Beach, Disney, Aquarium, Zoo, Putt-Putt. Time with her Grandfather with G and I along for the ride.

G is having quality time with his Dad - his Dad had a bunch of amo he needed to get rid of so they went shooting. We didn't realize we were here for his birthday, but it seems we are (yes, we meant to come out for your birthday Dad, really we did) so we have been having to cancel other plans so as to not hurt feelings (at the expense of my family and friends).

I guess it is fair, they canceled plans and stayed home this weekend rather then tell us they already had something booked but if they had told us, this whole vacation of ours could have been worked around that with time with my family as well as G's.

    Ah well, live and learn.

Next vacation we stay home and relax. This has been too much of everything - crowds, traffic, sun, rain, and drama.

Writer's Block: You Don't Know Me

Our friends don't always know us as well as they think, particularly when it comes to likes and dislikes. Which popular book, movie, band, food, TV show, etc. would your friends be surprised to hear that you don't like?

Before I married Gilmoure, I could not stand Jethro Tull. Now that I have heard more of the songs that never got a lot of radio air time, I understand the attraction and I admit that they are growing one me, but it still would not be my first pick for the ol' Ipod.

Miriam had her first riding lesson today. She did pretty well. Out at the Horse rescue ranch that she has been volunteering for the past year. I forgot the camera, so no photos till the next lesson in two weeks.

So she is ice skating on Saturdays and riding lessons every other Sunday.

    Creativity Meme
The first six people to respond to this post will get something made by me. It will be about or tailored to those six who respond first.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
    - I make no guarantees that you will like what I make
    - What I create will be just for you.
    - It'll be done this year
    - You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be a mix tape. It may be fic, or a poem. I may draw or paint something. I might bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
    - I reserve the right to do something extremely strange

*The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well, if you expect me to do something for you!

    51. How on earth did that happen. I just turned 40, ok 11 years ago, but it seems like yesterday.

Contrasting my life at this birthday to the 40th, so much has changed.

At 40, my weight was under control, but that was about it. My Mother had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, my Dad had already passed away. While I had not hit the glass ceiling at work yet, I could see it looming.

Now, I am surrounded by family, Not just G and Miriam, but G has family everywhere here. Listening to one of G's aunts yesterday explain how someone was related, my mind boggled. They were her Mother's stepfathers children's children.

My job is going well. No worries about loosing the job and have a possibility of a new opportunity in the near future.

Our house is snug and cozy. While a little on the small side, we have plenty of land to build outbuildings. So little by little, we will get more room.

SO, my weight is the only downside right now. I have lost 40+ pounds since moving to New Mexico, but still have 50 or so to loose. I got 4 dance videos for Christmas and I know of a bi-weekly dance class in town and a bi-weekly dance party up in Madrid. No more excuses. Need to do it now!

    Merry Christmas
    Merry Christmas everyone.

After an extremely early start to the day (Miriam woke up a little after 3am and kept checking the tree), we officially got up before 6am and had demolished the pile under the tree by 7am. Breakfast at 8 and G's Mom was able to join us.

We were supposed to be at her house around 2pm, but we all fell asleep. We got there 3 hours late. We are home, cleaning up (again, didn't we just do that last night?) and watching 101 Dalmation (live action) and trying not to fall asleep just yet. We are exciting people!

The forecast is for more snow tonight. So glad we have off until 1/5/2009. Mostly with pay. I love my place of work.

    It's begining to feel....
House has been made ready for Christmas. G got the lights and tree up last weekend and the tree is decorated to Miriam's satisfaction.

Miriam and I went Christmas shopping yesterday and I found that when you go Christmas shopping with an adorable 8yr in a Santa hat, every little old lady shopping for the grandkids feel the need to consult her for the best options.

Now, yesterday Miriam was running around without a coat. Today, it is snowing. For a while, we could not see any other houses or the road beyond our driveway.

We are all so excited to be spending our first Christmas in our new home!
